Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Group AG (HHLA) announced that at its Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) of the port of Hamburg became operational eight self-service terminals through which drivers can make the average time of 130 seconds in the automated check in and enter the necessary data for loading / unloading of containers.
HHLA stressed that such a system, which was developed by the Belgian Camco Technologies is the first operational in the ports of Germany and allows a substantial reduction in waiting times. The terminals have clear and simple instructions in six languages and have an intuitive touchscreen. The use of the system after a test phase, it became compulsory from the middle of last month and the manual procedure can still be used only for special loads, such as dangerous goods containers or reefer.
The terminal assembly also will install the system in its other two terminals of the port of Hamburg, and Burchardkai Tollerort."When the project will run over - has confirmed the development lead of the terminal CTA, Holger Mewes - it will extend to all other terminals. Our goal is to ensure that 70% of truck drivers exploiting the self-service terminals. " Mewes explained that the system has been introduced in collaboration with the drivers, with which it has been tested, "the touchscreen - he explained - has significantly contributed to the acceptance of the system. As soon as the check-in was carried out two or three times the level of learning is very high and the procedure becomes very fast. "
