Port of Ancona
|
Fishing is so important in the economic field that the port of Ancona is considered among the first fishing ports in the Adriatic Sea. The fishing fleet is considerable both for the number of boats and for the overall tonnage; its average age is quite "young" compared with the national one. Therefore it is suitable for fishing modern requirements and for the housing requirements of crews. The fleet of Ancona is made up of about 130 motor fishing-boats for trawling; 50 fishing-boats for clam fishery; 30 boats for inshore fishery. About 800 seamen are signed on. Moreover the fishing fleet can make use of good facilities ashore, such as a fish market, which is among the most modern in Europe and a number of equipment store-rooms; repair, ice production, ship stores and fuel supply facilities are available as well. |
