4 marzo 2003 Kaohsiung è sceso al quinto posto della classifica dei primi 10 porti container del mondo Anversa ha scavalcato Long Beach classificandosi alla decima posizione Con l'annuncio dei dati finali del traffico containerizzato realizzato nel porto di Kaohsiung si è delineata compiutamente la classifica dei primi dieci porti container mondiali. Al primo posto si è confermato il porto di Hong Kong, con annunciato nei giorni scorsi dall'amministrazione governativa locale (inforMARE del 25 febbraio 2003), seguito - come nel 2002 - dai porti di Singapore e Busan. Shanghai si è piazzato al quarto posto ed ha scavalcato Kaohsiung, sceso alla quinta posizione. Shenzhen è salito dall'ottava posizione nella graduatoria 2001 alla sesta in quella del 2002, superando i porti di Rotterdam e Los Angeles, classificatisi lo scorso anno rispettivamente al settimo e all'ottavo posto. Amburgo ha mantenuto la nona posizione, mentre Anversa è entrato a far parte della top ten dei porti container mondiali sottraendo il posto a Long Beach, scivolato in undicesima posizione. Lo scorso anno i tre principali porti di Taiwan - Kaohsiung, Keelung e Taichung - hanno totalizzato un traffico container pari rispettivamente a 8.493.052 teu (+12,6%), 1.918.597 teu (+5,7%) e 1.193.657 teu (+11,6%).
