- The European Sea Port Organisation presents its new portal Ecoports
- Using on-line systems for evaluating environmental performance of ports
Today in Venice, during the first day of the conference "Greenport Logistics" and "Energy for Green Ports", the European Sea Port Organisation (ESPO) has announced the launch of the new Internet portal Ecoports marking the integration of the foundation Ecoports in the structure of the Association of European ports.
- Through the portal, at www.ecoports.com , ESPO is intended to provide the authorities with the European port system utilization Self Diagnosis Method (SDM) and Port Environmental Review System (PERS) to evaluate the environmental performance of ports, which have been updated to be made available online to members of ESPO.
- In particular, the portal has an online version of the SDM system that provides visibility to the Port Authority to achieve and maintain the status of "Ecoports port", which can be obtained by registering the new entity through the system and completing the questionnaire via the Internet .This activity - explained ESPO - which will have an updated analysis of the environmental management of ports. In addition, the status of "Ecoports port" will provide access and to achieve certification by the PERS system that - said the association - is the only standard of environmental management specific to the port sector.
- "ESPO - said the general secretary of the association, Patrick Verhoeven - is in a unique position to encourage best practices among its associated ports and to set ambitious goals. The integration of Ecoports within the structure of ESPO and the new website is part of that process. We believe that the new system will raise further the interest of the ports to join the network Ecoports and use the tools and services available. In this way we can accelerate the significant progress made by the European port sector in the field of environmental management over the past 15 years. "
