JAPAN'S ORDERBOOK UP 22 PER CENT
Japan received export orders for 155 ships of 5.6m gt in the first
half of this year, a 22 per cent rise on the same period in 1996.
The Japan Ship Exporters' Association attributed the growth partly
to the increased contracts for vlccs. Japan won eight vlcc orders
in the period, compared with four a year ago. By comparison, South
Korea won orders for 92
