    South Korean navy personnel man a gun during a operation yesterday on a vessel off TaeYonpyong Island in South Korean waters. They were urged not to fire first, but to be ready to strongly counter any aggression. Meanwhile, the United Nations Command in South Korea said North Korea had accepted its proposals for a meeting to discuss the week-long naval standoff, which began when vessels from the north crossed the boundary set in 1953, with talks likely to begin tomorrow.

  • Maersk fleet introduction
    The AP Möller Group has introduced the 13th of its large K and S class container vessels to the Maersk fleet. The 8,000 teu, 105,000 dwt Søro Maersk suceeds seven units of the S class built at the company's Odense yard. The smaller K class comprises five vessels of about 84,900 dwt. S'ro Maersk will be deployed on the new AE5 US west coast extension to Maersk's Europe-Far East container service.
