Il n’est pas du tout sûr que le crédit sera autorisé. On avait d’abord pensé que l’affaire avait été réglée à l’abri des regards après un entretien informel entre le président de la Commission, Romano Prodi, et Guy Verhofstadt, mais nous avons appris au quartier général européen à Bruxelles que différents membres de la Commission n’approuvaient pas cette opération de soutien à la Sabena.

    Opel a entamé cette semaine la dernière phase de son offensive dans le secteur du véhicule utilitaire léger en présentant officiellement la fourgonnette Combo Cargo. Cette présentation intervient quelques mois seulement après l’introduction du Vivaro (une camionnette de la classe des 2,8 tonnes, développée en collaboration avec Renault) et deux ans après celle du Movano (de la classe des 3,5 tonnes, un Renault Master rebadgé Opel). Le nouveau Combo devrait être un élément très important de cette offensive, car l’objectif est de conquérir un peu moins de 10% du marché de la fourgonnette. L’ambition est en effet de vendre de 70 à 75.000 véhicules par an, le marché européen de la fourgonnette ayant atteint 639.000 unités en 2000.
  • Marseille sillonne le monde pour “vendre” le projet Fos 2XL
    Sous le nom “Fos 2XL”, le Port autonome de Marseille (PAM) entend se doter d’un nouveau terminal à containers qui doit faire du port phocéen “la porte sud de l’Europe”. Directeur général du PAM, Eric Brassart fait néanmoins preuve d’un pragmatisme très marqué: “Nous voulons privilégier l’approche économique et vérifier qu’il y a bien un marché avant de lancer les travaux.” En clair, le chantier ne démarrera que si un accord est trouvé avec un ou plusieurs opérateurs. “Si ce n’est pas le cas, nous investirons nos disponibilités dans d’autres projets. Nous n’en manquons pas”, ajoute-t-il.
  • Les services postaux ne sont plus “à prendre ou à laisser”
    C’est avant-hier qu’a été lancé à Genève (Suisse) Post-Expo 2001, un forum stratégique et technologique pour entreprises postales et prestataires de services postaux. Thomas Leary, directeur général de l’UPU, a demandé aux entreprises postales lors de l’ouverture du congrès de faire davantage usage des innovations technologiques afin de pouvoir répondre à l’évolution du marché et aux nouvelles exigences des clients. “La page du à prendre ou à laisser est définitivement tournée”, dit-il. Paul Waterschoot, directeur des services postaux à la Commission européenne, a donné un aperçu des difficultés de la libéralisation postale européenne et de la proposition de compromis qui sera soumise lundi au conseil européen.
