March 1, 2001 Gotthard tunnel construction delayed and more expensive The two new basis tunnels through the Swiss Alps, Lötschberg and Gotthard, will cost a full CHF 1.7 billion more than budgeted. This is the finding of a report by the Neat supervision authority on construction year 2000. The schedule is also problematic.
