Slowdown slashes trade surplus

The global economic slowdown put the brakes on demand for Japanese
exports last month, slashing the trade surplus by 41.6 per cent
from a year earlier.
The surplus fell for the 10th month running to stand at 665.9
billion yen (about HK$42 billion) last month, the finance ministry
