The European Commission plans to conduct a thorough investigation of pricing agreements between container lines, an action demanded by European shippers.
- Air Canada cuts losses
For the quarter ended March 31, 2002, Air Canada reported an operating loss of $160 million, a $133 million improvement from the 2001-quarter.
- KLM cargo load factor up
KLM said today its overall load factor in April rose by 2.1 percentage points to 78.9 per cent from last year's 76.8 per cent, while traffic declined by 6 per cent.
- Schenker boosts earnings by almost 19 percent
Schenker earned over 128 million euros in 2001, an increase of almost 19 percent compared to 2000, because of a bigger market share in worldwide forwarding.

TNT Post (TPG) announced today that through its division TNT Logistics, it has acquired a 50 per cent stake in DFDS Transport Logistics (registered as DSV Logistik Holding A/S), a subsidiary of DSV A/S.

- Gray returns to Hutchison
CHRIS Gray has rejoined the Hutchison group less than four months after leaving the Hong Kong-based ports operator, writes Janet Porter. He has been appointed general manager of Freeport Harbour Co in the Bahamas. A well-known figure in shipping circles around the world after a long spell with Cointship Containerlines and three years in charge of Hutchison’s UK ports, including Felixstowe and Thamesport, Mr Gray surprised many colleagues and customers by deciding to retire at the end of last year.

Larmement Nile Dutch Africa Line va lancer à la fin du mois de mai un nouveau service containérisé entre lAfrique du Sud et lAngola. Pour ce faire sera aligné un PC cellulaire affrété de 800 TEU, le m/v NDS Benguela, conçu pour transporter des containers lourds. Le premier départ aura lieu le 30 mai prochain à Durban. La fréquence dun départ tous les 10 jours implique quun deuxième navire interviendra rapidement. Ce service sera mis en connexion avec le service européen de larmement, ce qui interviendra à Luanda.
