- European March cargo traffic down
March cargo traffic for European airlines dropped 9.5 per cent from the same period last year as capacity cuts following September 11 and changes to summer timetables took effect. 'AEA members' traffic in March was 7.9 per cent lower than in March 2001, although a number of factors combined to influence this figure.

The Federal Maritime Commission announced ten compromise agreements recovering civil penalties in an aggregate amount of $764,500, with companies like Eurasia Freight Service and Hanjin Shipping.

Le président du conseil, Alain Deneef, a insisté lors dune conférence de presse organisée à la hâte sur le fait que tous les dossiers en cours seront traités.
- WWL reprendra-t-il la flotte car-carrier de Hyundai MM?
Il y a quelque temps déjà Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines (WWL) annonçait son intention de reprendre la flotte car-carrier que Hyunday Merchant Marine met en vente dans le but de générer les moyens financiers dont il a besoin pour consolider ses activités containers. Loffre porte sur 1,8 mia. de dollars US et sur quelque 70 car-carriers.

Lundi dernier, le puissant syndicat métallurgique allemand IG Metall, qui compte 2,7 mio. dadhérents, avait organisé une première journée de grève générale du secteur, ceci pour démontrer au patronat quil entend bien obtenir satisfaction dans le cadre des négociations salariales, qui durent depuis des semaines et ce sans résultat. Rappelons que le syndicat réclame une adaptation salariale de 6,5 à 7%, alors que le patronat nentend pas aller au-delà de 3,3% sur une période de 15 mois, plus une prime unique de 190 euros. La dernière grève dans ce secteur date dy il a sept ans et le mouvement fut rapidement solutionné. Cette fois-ci cependant, le contexte économique de lAllemagne est quelque
peu différent, en ce sens que léconomie est actuellement à la traîne.

Via sa filiale spécialisée Setaf-Saget, le Groupe Bourbon (siège à Paris) est très engagé en transport maritime de vracs secs. Cette activité bénéficie dune croissance régulière. Au titre de lexercice 2001 elle a franchi le cap des dix millions de tonnes de marchandises transportées. Cela, pour un chiffre daffaires de 107,5 millions dEUR, soit +10,8% par rapport à 2000. De surcroît, le résultat dexploitation est passé à 6,3 millions dEUR en 2001, soit +85,3% par rapport aux 3,4 millions dEUR de lannée 2000. Face à de tels résultats, on comprend que Jacques de Chateauvieux, président du Groupe Bourbon souhaite accélérer en transport de vracs. Ce qui le conduit notamment à envisager lachat de navires
atteignant 55.000 tpl (tonnes de port en lourd).
