Lobjectif de la Container Security Initiative (CSI) est de sécuriser davantage les flux de containers en direction des Etats-Unis. Aux yeux de ladministration américaine, cela implique également des contrôles plus sévères dans les pays doù proviennent les flux de cargaisons. Selon nos collègues de la presse spécialisée néerlandaise, une équipe de la douane américaine va coopérer avec la douane néerlandaise dans le cadre dun projet pilote à Rotterdam. Anvers, qui est un important port de chargement vers les Etats-Unis avec un trafic de 8,6 mio. de tonnes en 2001 (dont 2,8 mio. de tonnes containérisées), est également disposé à coopérer aux initiatives américaines.
Le Customs Attaché de lambassade américaine à Paris est attendu dans le port anversois en mai prochain, tandis que la douane belge sera représentée à la réunion de lOMI organisée autour de ce thème à Londres.
