- Amsterdam Ports record transhipment
In 2002 Amsterdam Ports again achieved record transhipments of an estimated 70 million tons. With their 2.4 per cent growth the four port complex reached fourth position in northwest Europe, a spot previously held by Le Havre.
- Dutch group to take stake in Air Lib
The troubled French regional carrier Air Lib and the Dutch group IMCA have agreed that IMCA would take a 50 per cent stake in the airline.
- US rail freight up
Rail freight traffic on U.S. railroads was up sharply during the week ended January 4 in comparison with the first week of last year, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported.
- NOL to pay Jacobs $4.3 million
Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) said today its chief executive Flemming Jacobs would be paid $4.3 million for leaving his job early.
- 2 per cent less freight Lufthansa in 2002
Due to 'the weak economic climate' Lufthansa Cargo was hit hard in the fourth quarter of 2002. Last year Lufthansa Cargo transported 1.9 per cent less freight and mail.

- Ark Royal leaves Portsmouth as war clouds gather
The Royal Naval aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, commanded by Captain Alan Massey, sailing out of Portsmouth Harbour on Saturday. The flagship of the UK navy, the aircraft carrier was at the head of the largest UK amphibious task force deployed since the Falklands War in 1982. As the threat of war with Iraq grows stronger, the 16-strong flotilla is officially sailing for long-planned naval exercises in the Far East.
