June 5, 2003 (posted June 2) Port of Montreal clearing container backlog MONTREAL - Container movement through the Port of Montreal has been very slow for weeks now, and the problem stems from severe Atlantic storms in February and March that threw shipping line schedules out of whack. "The root cause is the weather. It's a recurring nightmare every winter," said George Kuhn, executive director of the Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association. Michel Turgeon, director of communications for the Montreal Port Authority, said the situation started to improve in April, and after dealing with new arrivals and eliminating the backlog created by the storms, "the situation is back to normal.
