September 29, 2003 Cargo Handling Charges At Major Ports On The Rise, But JNPT Keeps Costs Low Kailash Rajwadkar MUMBAI, SEPT 28: Cargo handling costs at Indian ports have been on an upswing with the only exception being JNPT. According to the data provided by Indian Port Association, per tonne handling cost at JNPT had dropped from Rs 168.25 per tonne in 1995-96 to Rs 98.99 per tonne in 2001-02. As against this, the average handling cost considering all the major ports in India has gone up from Rs 63.36 per tonne to Rs 95.14 per tonne in 2001-02.
