Truckers' Walkout Hits Key Ports

Members of the Korean Cargo Workers Federation (KCWF) yesterday staged a major walkout, demanding higher transportation fees and fair contracts with shipping companies, causing serious disruptions to the country’s transportation system. It was the second walkout by the cargo workers this year following the one in May.

Freight moving in and out of the port of Pusan, which is responsible for some 80 percent of the nation’s total container freights, was cut down to 50 percent and only 50 containers of goods arrived at Hanjin’s shipping port at its Kwangyang branch, where 700 to 800 containers are handled every day ......
