The Scandinavian Ro-Ro operator Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken the unprecedented step of signing a contract to purchase 200,000 tonnes of heavy fuel oil (HFO) bunker fuel with a sulphur content of just 1.0%. Wallenius Wilhelmsen, which yesterday agreed the groundbreaking contract with Shell Marine Products, told Bunkerworld today that the company's 'internal goal' was to surpass global standards for sulphur content in bunker fuel - which currently average around 4%.

Demand for bunkers has been subdued in Korea for a couple of weeks, partly because of falling numbers on the back of softening crude, but also due to more competitive prices elsewhere in the region.
