- China cargo volumes surge despite bid to cool economy
CHINA's container shipments are still rising after the government introduced measures to cool economic growth, shipping lines such as China Ocean Shipping Group and Japan's Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha said.
- Cosco to order two more oil tankers
CHINA Ocean Shipping Group's chief executive Wei Jiafu said the country's largest shipping company will order two crude oil tankers to be delivered by 2007 as the nation's fleet expands to cope with soaring oil imports.
- Hyundai, Daewoo may win big Kuwaiti orders
HYUNDAI Heavy Industries Co and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co, the world's largest shipbuilders, may win as many as seven tanker orders from Kuwait, which plans to spend more than US$525 million to renew its fleet.
- S Korea posts record ship orders in H1
SOUTH Korea's shipbuilders booked record orders in the first half of 2004, up 16 per cent on a year earlier because of strong demand to replace worn-out ships, the commerce ministry said yesterday.

MALAYSIA's cargo handling grew by 16 per cent in the first six months of this year to 4.88 million twenty-foot equivalent units from 5.69 million TEUs in the previous corresponding period.
