April 20, 2004 Business up 24 per cent at port By Ochieng Ogodo Activity at the Port of Mombasa hit an all time high last year with the container cargo handling a total of 380,353 twenty-ton equivalent units (TEUS) compared to 305,427 TEUS in 2002. This represented a growth of 24.53 per cent. Kenya Ports Authority attributed the growth to successful marketing of Mombasa as a hub for East Africa. This made the port attract a large amount of transshipment traffic that led to a phenomenal rise in the volume of activity from 340,452 tons in 2002 to 605,360 tons in 2003.
