October 13, 2004 New seaport in Bitung kicks off The Jakarta Post, Jakarta Outgoing President Megawati Soekarnoputri officiated on Tuesday the Bitung seaport in North Sulawesi, which is considered to have a big potential in improving the local economy. The construction of the seaport was financed via loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), which provided a total of �5.25 billion for the construction of the Bitung seaport and another seaport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, which was inaugurated in December last year, the bank said in a press statement.
