September 14, 2006 Ship tried Europe before dumping toxic waste in Abidjan AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- A ship that unloaded toxic waste in Ivory Coast that killed six people tried to unload waste containing high concentrations of sulphur in Amsterdam a month before, a Dutch waste disposal firm said on Thursday. Public outcry over the dumped toxic sludge, which made thousands of people sick in the port city of Abidjan, forced the war-divided West African state's government to resign last week.
