- Sea Asia gets bigger in its second year
An impressive array of thought leaders in the maritime industry is being lined up for the second Sea Asia conference and exhibition from April 21 to 23 next year. The organisers plan to build on the success of last year's inaugural event to consolidate and develop the clout of Asia in the shipping world.
- ST Marine christens historic RoRo vessel
ST Marine's first roll-on roll-off (RoRo) ship meant to transport Airbus A380 fuselages was named at its Benoi yard yesterday. The 3,500 dwt, 127-metre long vessel was christened the City of Hamburg by French Minister for Higher Education and Research Valerie Pecresse.
- US cargo check rule slammed
New laws to protect the US from a ship-borne dirty bomb or weapons of mass destruction will impose a major financial burden on US trade partners and consumers, a conference heard on Tuesday. The measures, to come into effect in 2012, will oblige countries to scan every one of the estimated 18 million cargo containers heading to the US each year before they leave their port of departure.
