- Arroyo promises to address shipping industry concerns

CEBU CITY - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday ordered a
review of local seafarers' salaries, the completion of a maritime
law, and the possible creation of a mutual insurance association for
small and medium shipping operators.
-
- These measures aim to address the concerns of the interisland
shipping industry, which is reeling from rising fuel prices as well
as lack of capacity and competent crew.
- Mrs. Arroyo, who met with some Cebu-based shipowners and
Transportation officials at the Malacañang sa Sugbo, also
ordered the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) to re-audit eight
of the 14 grounded vessels of Sulpicio Lines, Inc.
