- The governors of Hawaii and California on Friday urged the
federal government to reject new rules for cruise ship port calls
that they said will hurt their states' economies.
- Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle and California Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger, both Republicans, sent a letter to Homeland Security
Secretary Michael Chertoff arguing that a proposed rule change
intended to protect U.S.-flagged ships from foreign competitora
could have “unintended, disastrous consequences and cause
wide-ranging economic damage.”
