Le imprese edili chiedono container adeguati alle proprie esigenze

Anche se alle imprese piacerebbe utilizzare i contenitori per una quota molto maggiore delle proprie attività internazionali, i dirigenti delle stesse lamentano il fatto che in molti casi il tipo di carico movimentato non si adatta facilmente agli equipaggiamenti messi a disposizione dalle linee di navigazione.

Uno di loro, che ha chiesto di rimanere anonimo, ha dichiarato: "Noi fungiamo da società di approvvigionamento per una delle maggiori imprese edilizie a livello mondiale e tutti i mesi movimentiamo diverse migliaia di contenitori relativi a progetti infrastrutturali di varia natura quali hotel, aeroporti ed autostrade.

Tuttavia, il tipo e la disponibilità di equipaggiamento spesso significano che non possiamo utilizzare i servizi delle linee di navigazione così spesso quanto vorremmo".

Attualmente, il gruppo, che ha sede in Asia, controlla circa 30.000 TEU ed effettua altresì nel corso di un anno fra 20 e 30 viaggi con rinfusiere che stazzano in media 50.000-60.000 tonnellate lorde.

Secondo il dirigente in questione, è importante che la società conservi un "punto d'appoggio in entrambi i campi", poiché la natura dei prodotti spediti e la varietà delle località servite stanno a significare che i contenitori talvolta non sono adatti, mentre i porti più vicini non sono sempre serviti da operazioni di linea.

Spiega il dirigente: "Anche se i servizi containerizzati sono, in genere, più affidabili e la frequenza delle partenze è spesso migliore rispetto a quello delle operazioni con rinfusiere, queste ultime, di solito, risultano essere più flessibili.

Esse inoltre possono assicurarci migliori vantaggi in termini di costi e migliori economie di scala per la maggior parte del tempo".

Il rispetto degli orari, tuttavia, è una delle principali domande che vengono rivolte alla società ed è anche il maggiore inconveniente dei servizi alla rinfusa, che normalmente operano su base occasionale.

"La tempistica riveste un valore decisivo, dato che la mancata consegna in tempo può causare ritardi al progetto e comportare per noi la conseguenza di pesanti penalità per non avere completato i lavori in tempo" spiega il dirigente logistico.

"Si tratta di un enorme compito e noi dobbiamo fare in modo da avere un monitoraggio della filiera delle forniture ed un processo di gestione appropriati.

Anche se la maggior parte di noi pensa che la containerizzazione sia il futuro, la nostra opinione è che la rivoluzione del container (compreso il modo in cui i terminal contenitori movimentano i carichi fuori sagoma) stia attraversando un periodo di stagnazione e che il settore non si stia adoperando per addivenire a nuove idee per la movimentazione dei prodotti della sua base clientelare che si va allargando.

Sul fronte degli equipaggiamenti, ad esempio, abbiamo visto poche novità da quando prodotti speciali quali gli open top ed i flatrack apparvero negli anni '70 ed ‘80".

Il dirigente sostiene che i requisiti sono cambiati e che la "capacità dei contenitori" aveva bisogno di fare dei passi avanti.

Per quanto riguarda la sua ditta, il dirigente vorrebbe box con portelloni laterali.

"Questo agevolerebbe e migliorerebbe notevolmente le nostre attività di carico e scarico delle merci" asserisce il dirigente "ma troviamo impossibile assicurarci un quantitativo bastevole di questo tipo di equipaggiamento".

Secondo Andrew Foxcroft, esperto di Containerisation International per i settori della produzione e del leasing di contenitori, la principale ragione di questa carenza consiste nei "pesanti costi di produzione".

Spiega Foxcroft: "I container con aperture laterali (quasi tutti di lunghezza pari a 20 piedi) in effetti esistono, ma sono utilizzati solo in piccolo numero (alcune migliaia di unità a fronte di 30 milioni di TEU nel complesso) e così i costi di costruzione per unità sono assai elevati.

Di norma, essi sono due volte più costosi rispetto alle unità standard per carichi secchi delle medesime dimensioni.

Tali unità sono anche più costose da gestire nelle operazioni ed agli effetti della manutenzione, nonché di gran lunga più vulnerabili dal punto di vista della sicurezza.

Fondamentalmente, perciò, il grosso della domanda non li riguarda".

Il c.e.o. della ditta sopra citata ha sollevato qualche eccezione rispetto a tale opinione.

Ha infatti dichiarato al riguardo: "Se si osservano i nostri volumi, sono sicuro che i vettori marittimi possano effettuare investimenti per darci questa opzione senza troppe difficoltà.

Così facendo, noi avremmo altresì la possibilità di dirottare ulteriori volumi dalla rinfusa ai box".

Aggiunge poi: "15-20 anni fa, ci volevano quasi cinque anni per completare un hotel da 500 camere; adesso, occorre un solo anno, dal momento che la maggior parte delle componenti viene spedita prefabbricata.

Queste parti ovviamente sono pesanti e dalle grandi dimensioni e, a differenza dei bei vecchi tempi, lo spazio nei magazzini, dove noi svuotiamo i contenitori, è alquanto limitato.

Perciò, ci è di aiuto il fatto di poter caricare/scaricare i materiali dai lati del container, evitando così pure una doppia movimentazione.

Si tratta di un obbligo ormai, dato che il lavoro è così costoso di questi tempi, specialmente nel mondo sviluppato".

L'equipaggiamento Super Rack potrebbe essere un'opzione per la società, dal momento che, per alcuni carichi, esso la dispensa dalla necessità di utilizzare gru per le operazioni di carico e scarico.

Anche se il dirigente ha dichiarato che gli open side, i flatrack e gli open top hanno fornito qualche risposta ai problemi della sua società, ha poi sostenuto che in molti casi i servizi convenzionali sono sia più razionali dal punto di vista dei costi, sia più flessibili.

Conclude l'esperto dirigente: "Una o due compagnie di navigazione forniscono contenitori "hard top" nei quali possiamo rimuovere il tetto e caricare le merci.

Se la rivoluzione del container si accinge a muovere verso il prossimi livello, allora abbiamo bisogno di vedere più innovazione; e quale partenza migliore potrebbe esserci, se non sul fronte degli equipaggiamenti?".
