- The Grimaldi Group Naples reinforces the new owner's Mediterranean Express Service
- It is used a vessel of greater capacity and new direct calls were included in Casablanca and Theme
The Grimaldi Group Naples owner has upgraded the new service Mediterranean Express (MEX), dedicated to the transport of goods stock, container and project cargo, since last autumn that connects the Mediterranean with West Africa ( of 13 October 2010).
- Today the group has replaced the ship Thebeland used on the route with the ship Republic of Rome, and introduced new direct calls at Casablanca and Tema, the latter previously offered in transhipment.
- The ro / ro multipurpose Republic of Rome, which has a gross tonnage of 42,000 tons and a length of 216 feet, can carry up to 650 TEUs, 1,200 car / van and 2,200 linear feet of rolling cargo at a speed of 18 knots.With the introduction of this unit, the loading capacity offered by the Group of Naples on this route increased by over 48% over the 1200 car / van, compared with the substitute vessel. The unit is also equipped with two cranes on deck capable of handling loads up to 40 tonnes in weight and a ramp for the loading of rolling units weighing up to 150 tons.
- The new route links the ports of Salerno, Genoa, Marseilles and Valencia with Casablanca, Dakar (Senegal), Lome (Togo), Lagos (Nigeria), Cotonou (Benin) and Tema (Ghana) every 18 days.
- Currently, the Grimaldi Group connects Northern Europe with West Africa with three scheduled services taking about 20 ships with ro-multipurpose transport of rolling stock, containers and project cargo. Thanks to these connections, the goods coming from the Mediterranean and carried with the MEX service can be transhipped in Dakar and proceed to the ports of Banjul (Gambia), Conakry (Guinea), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Monrovia (Liberia), Libreville (Gabon) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and Douala (Cameroon).
