- Agreement to produce energy from algae to the port of Venice
- Pilot project carried out by ENAV and Veneto Agricoltura
 This morning an agreement was signed for the construction of the pilot project on an industrial scale for the production of electricity from algae in the Venice lagoon. The signed Veneto Agriculture, the company of the Veneto Region for agriculture, agro forestry, ENAV Srl, a company owned 51% by end APV Investimenti SpA (a subsidiary of the Port Authority of Venice) and 49% by Enalg Spa , and with the participation of the same Enalg, a company holding the patent industry.
- Veneto Agriculture has given its willingness to install for five years at its site of experimental aquaculture Pellestrina (Venice) pilot plant for the creation of biofuels (Blue Petroleum) useful for the production of electricity and / or engines to be used for to boats and motor vehicles on an experimental basis. The plant, which in its shortened version could produce 0.5 megawatts of energy, will be tested in the lagoon to assess the performance of the mini base station in the year the climate in Venice.Once you have experienced the reproductive capacity of algae - hence the capacity of power generation - will proceed to the size of the biomass power plant itself. The plant, once extended - said the Port Authority of Venice - will be able to provide all the energy needed to meet the needs of the port of tomorrow.
- "The goal - said the president of the port, Paolo Costa - is to build a power plant of about 40/50 megawatts. The port of Venice today consumes about seven megawatts, this project allows us, together with other projects related to renewable energy sources among which the cold ironing (electrification of piers from the ground), to make a big step toward energy self-sufficiency of Port of Venice, even in relation to future development projects. "
- The agreement also provides for the initiation of research and development of technologies in the field of bioenergy. In particular, Veneto Agriculture will test whether the biomass produced can be used as a feed supplement in the production of shellfish and aquaculture.The agreement also provides for cooperation between Enalg Veneto and Agriculture for the creation of a Centre for Biotechnology and reference Algology photosynthetic and thus develop skills in the territory and simultaneously carry out industrial research and pre-competitive development in the field renewable energy.
