- Today the first meeting in Genoa in the cluster Mediterranean Motorways of the Sea
- In 2011 this mode of transport will benefit from European funds for at least 60 million euro. The EU Commission launches consultation on the issuance of bonds to finance infrastructure projects
Today, the European coordinator of the Motorways of the Sea, Luis Valente de Oliveira, in Genoa along with José Anselmo, representative of Mobility and Transport Directorate-General of the European Commission to attend the first meeting of the cluster Mediterranean Motorways of the Sea, two-day event which will be followed next April by a similar meeting in Aarhus between the partners in the cluster of sea motorways of the Baltic and North Sea. The EU representatives meet, in fact, the four partners of the four northern European and Mediterranean projects selected under the call for proposals for the distribution of funds for TEN-T 2010 - Trans-European Transport Network ( ofFebruary 21, 2011).
- Today's meeting coincides with the launch by the Commission for a public consultation on "Europe 2020 Bonds to finance the projects and involving the issuance of bonds to finance the development of European infrastructure network. The goal is to attract capital from investors such as pension funds and insurance companies to infrastructure projects carried out by private firms. The consultation will close on May 2. "Financial instruments - said the European commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, Olli Rehn - should contribute to the financing of projects of general interest. At this time, public budgets must be restored, but we must at the same time promoting sustainable growth in Europe. The EU budget should be used more effectively to allow such projects to attract funding from capital markets. Therefore, under this initiative will unite our forces with the European Investment Bank. "
- "The financing of infrastructure - said president of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Philippe Maystadt - has suffered from the crisis and banks are facing new constraints on the long-term loans. The bonds to finance projects could be a way to encourage other investors such as pension funds and insurance companies to make capital and effectively complete the traditional financing options. "
- The European Commission has noted that the analysis of investment plans in the transport sector in EU Member States indicates that after 2013 will require approximately € 21.5 billion to remove the bottlenecks to achieve cross-border links missing and to interconnect the different modes of transport.
- During the presentation of the meeting in Genoa, which took place this morning in the headquarters of the Ligurian with the participation of the Regional Infrastructure, Raffaella Paita, the chairman of the Port Authority of Genoa, Luigi Merlo, and the managing director of RINA Ugo Salerno, De Oliveira Anselmo and stressed the importance of development of motorways of the sea as part of European transport policy.In the 2007-2013 budget - said Anselmo - in this mode has been set aside funds for 350 million euro out of a total of seven billion euro for the TEN-T - Trans-European Transport Network (the total budget - precisely - is actually be 8.0 billion euro). If in 2010 the financing of motorways of the sea - said Anselmo - were € 85 million the previous year and 20 million euro this year, with the announcement of next May, the amount for the program of highways Sea amount to at least EUR 60 million.
- The events of today and tomorrow in Genoa, Liguria and hosted by the Port Authority of Genoa and organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation and the Italian RINA, the main partners of approved projects "honey" and "MOS 24 "are intended to discuss in detail the agenda and contributions to the 2011 annual report of the MOS (Motorways of the Sea) with the European coordinator, to exploit synergies and develop cooperation with other projects, and MOS to identify future partnerships with countries neighboring and / or other projects related MOS.
