- Grimaldi will operate the service themselves Mediterranean Express
- From April 10 the "Republic of Rome" will be accompanied dala ro / ro-multipurpose Eurocargo Istanbul "
From 10 April, the Grimaldi Group Naples owner will operate the service themselves Mediterranean Express (MEX), which opened last October, ending the collaboration with the French Navitrans ( of 13 October 2010). The line, which connects the Mediterranean to West Africa, will be managed entirely by the Group of Naples, which will join the Republic of Rome, currently used on that route, the ro / ro-multipurpose Eurocargo Istanbul.
- Grimaldi said that after an active collaboration with the French shipping company based on agreement "space swap agreement" through which sanctioned the availability of space within each ship dedicated to the load of the other operator, the decision to end the cooperation was made jointly in order to better serve its customers on that route.
- The MEX service, which is dedicated to the transport of goods stock, container and project cargo, directly connects the ports of Salerno, Genoa, Marseilles and Valencia with Casablanca, Dakar, Lomé, Lagos, Cotonou and theme running every 18 days.
- The introduction of 'Eurocargo Istanbul will double the frequency of service from Salerno, airport hub of the Grimaldi group that is connected by the company with other eastern Mediterranean ports such as Piraeus, Izmir, Mersin, Yenikoy, Gemlik, Alexandria, Limassol, Ashdod, Beirut and Latakia.
- Moreover, thanks to the three services of the Grimaldi between North Europe and West Africa, the goods coming from the Mediterranean and transported via the MEX service can be transhipped in Dakar and proceed to the ports of Banjul, Conakry, Freetown, Monrovia, Abidjan, Douala, Boma, Pointe Noire and Luanda.
- L 'Eurocargo Istanbul, owned by the Group of Naples, is 195 meters long and has a gross tonnage of 29,400 tons. The unit can carry, at a speed of 20 knots, 2,300 linear feet of rolling cargo and containers, as well as 500 car / van, or a mix of 1,400 linear feet of rolling cargo, 300 TEUs and 500 car / van. The vessel will be employed in service MEX until next September and then be replaced by a unit with the same technical characteristics of the Republic of Rome, ensuring, in this way, a greater load capacity.
