- The port of Venice tightens ties with Interport Padova
- Will be promoted the establishment of a direct rail service to Venice-Padua goods and synergies between the freight village area and the future of offshore terminal
In a meeting the president Interporto of Padova, Sergio Giordani, and the chairman of the Port Authority of Venice, Paolo Costa, agreed on new lines of cooperation of mutual interest to both organizations.
- In particular, the agreement aims to create the conditions for achieving a freight rail link between Venice and Padua in order to bring synergy in the provision of port services and logistics between the two poles and more efficient rail services to goods from the Veneto region even after the increase in container traffic to and from the Far East. Also will look at possible synergies between the new project of the deepwater port terminal in Venice, capable of handling up to two million TEUs per year (
of September 23, 2010), and the inland port of Padua as a hub of manufacturing and trading of goods loaded in the big container ships.
- The two agencies stressed that the synergistic path dictated by these guidelines, taking into account also the relevance of all freight in the Northeast, seeks to enhance the logistic function of the Veneto region and the Northeast in favor of productive and economically as the optimization process of the logistics system in place Venetian blind to recover the economic dimension of its base port, the Venice, already a winner in the environmental and transit time compared to the ports of northern Europe for goods to and from the Far East.
