- Last month, the traffic of goods in the port of Venice grew by 2.3%
- In the 12-month period September 2010 - August 2011 container traffic reached a record level of 441,000 TEU (+18.7%)
Last month, the port handled 2,094,965 tons of Venice of goods, with an increase of 2.3% compared to August 2010. The increase was due to the growth of 21.3% of the volume of cargo, which amounted to 624,656 tons, and the growth of 45.8% of the volume of dry bulk, rose to 616,793 tonnes (with significant increases in volumes of feed, with +72.1%, and minerals, with +70.4%). The bulk liquids are reduced by 23.1% to 853,516 tons due to lower volumes of crude oil (-31.7%) and refined products (-22.1%). The handling of containers amounted to 35,090 TEUs (+9.2%, +12.1% in terms of tons).
- The Port Authority of Venice has stressed that the increases achieved last month in bulk and in containers are the first positive effect of the deepening of channels - is 30 inches - certified by the Coast Guard in July.
- In the field of passenger traffic was 394,444 units (+5.1%), of which 279,319 cruise passengers, an increase of 4.6% due to the opening of the new terminal Soca II.
- The port authority has announced that on an annual basis (September 2010 - August 2011) the commercial traffic has increased by 14.7% by compensating for the stationary state (-2.1%) in the oil sector, a decrease of 13 % of crude oil products offset by an increase of 11, 2% of refined products, and the progressive decline (-19.4%) of the Marghera industry-related trades now account for just over 10% of the total trade of the port with a significant decrease in traffic of coal (-27.7%) due to the activities of power plants offset by the handling of other dry bulk cargoes such as cereals (+162.9%) and fertilizers (+155.4%). In the twelve months, the container industry has reached 441,000 TEUs (+18.7% over the period September 2009 - August 2010), a result never achieved before in the Venetian port.
