For the fourth consecutive year the railway traffic goods in Switzerland has regained market shares on that street one



The Helvetic federal Office of statistics UST has announced that in the 2016, for the fourth consecutive year, railway traffic goods in Switzerland it has regained market shares on that street one and that regarding the year precedence the performances of transport of the railroad are increased of +0.9% while those of the road are diminished of -1,5%.

In particular, last year the performances of transport on the street net and railway Swiss have totaled altogether 27,8 billion ton-kilometer, 0.6% in less regarding 2015, decrease - it has specified the Office of statistics - that is from exactly leading back to the transport goods on the road (- 1.5%) while the transport goods on track has recorded an light increase (+0.9%).

In the 2016 percentage of the street transports on with of the transport activities it was pairs to 61.0%, that of the rail shipments to 39.0%. The railroad therefore has newly regained some market shares until to newly reach the level of 2008. The Office has remembered that as a result of the crisis economic financial institution and, in the 2009 quota the railway traffic goods was collapsed to 35.9% and that before then it had never reached a level so low.

Relatively to the single road haulage, in 2016 in Switzerland the heavy vehicles for the transport of goods have covered 2,2 billion kilometers, of which 1,7 billion (77%) by Swiss vehicles and 0,5 billion (23%) by those registered abroad. To this in particular vans join 4,2 billion to kilometers covered from the light vehicles for the transport of goods (). While tendentially during the last few years the kilometric performance of the vehicles registered in the States of western Europe is diminished, the west-european companies of transport have benefitted of the east increase of the EU and consequent the free access at the market. The Office of statistics has specified that, for example, the kilometers covered from the vehicles for the transport of goods Polish in Switzerland are today seven greater times regarding the period precedence the entrance of Poland in the EU in 2004; if of Rumania quite 29 greater times regarding the period precedence its entrance in the EU in 2007. On the whole, however, the developments of the various Countries of registration are compensated: between 2001 and 2016 on the Swiss roads the annual kilometric performances of the heavy vehicles for the transport of goods registered abroad have remained stable to about 500 million kilometers.

While the Helvetic federal Office of transports UFT has announced that in the first semester of this year a goods is recorded braked of the increase of the transalpine traffic railway and that, as a result of the interruption of the railroad in the valley Rhenish near Rastatt and of the closing total of the draft of Luino for widening work, for the second half of the 2017 previews an ulterior contraction of the traffic goods on track through the Alps.

About the traffic goods on track, in the first semester of the 2017 volume of the transalpine traffic goods railway it is diminished of the -1,5% regarding the first half of 2016, that it corresponds to a decrease of about 200 000 tons. Altogether in the first part of 2017 on the two Swiss alpine passes they are journeyed on track goods for 14,6 million tons. The UFT has evidenced that therefore the strong increase recorded between 2013 has been arrested and 2016. The bending has happened above all in according to trimester of 2017 (- 4.7%), while the first trimester of the year still showed an increase of +2%.

Both Swiss railway passes have made to record a decrease of the volume of traffic, light greater to Sempione (- 1.7%) regarding Saint Gottardo (- 1.3%). Moreover Saint Gottardo reaffirmation the pass with the higher quota on the entire railway traffic goods through Swiss Alps (54.1%).

The federal Office of the transports has specified that, between the several modalities of transport, only the arranged traffic is successful to acquire new volumes of transport: the arranged traffic accompanied (TCNA) has not grown of +6.7% regarding the first semester of the 2016 and volume of traffic of the travelling freeway (Rola) has recorded an increment of +2.3%.
