The field is facing various opportunities so as various challenges. In particular - Dorsman has explained - the persistent state of crisis of the market places ulterior challenges to many shipowners of the EU that intend to put into effect a decarbonizzazione as fast as possible and to contribute to create sure and highly qualified places of work in Europe. So that the shipping European it continues to being vital - it has found Dorsman - the politicians must adopt a total perspective and guarantee conditions of parity to total level". Between the criticalities faced from the Dorsman shipowners has cited "the current tensions between the total commercial powers, the increase of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and the long state of insecurity the Gulf of Hormuz". To these, it has specified, one joins the uncertainty determined from the Brexit.

Of 685 thousand supported direct places of work in 2018 from the European industry of the shipping, 365 thousand the fields of the towing and the dredgings (regarding 640 thousand in 2015 were places of work in the field of the transport of the goods enclosed), 255 thousand in the fleeting field of the transport (191 thousand), 50 thousand in the field of the ships of services and to support of the offshore industry (68 thousand) and 15 thousand in the segment of the charterings (7 thousand). Moreover of the relative total to 2018, 555 thousand places of work were relative activities in sea (516 thousand in 2015) and 115 thousand to earth (124 thousand). Relatively to the marine ones, 210 thousand were official (216 thousand in 2015) and 345 thousand common (300 thousand). Single the marine ones of nationality of the EU and European Economic Spazio were 210 thousand (207 thousand in 2015) and those of other nationalities 345 thousand (309 thousand).

Of beyond the 2,0 million one places of work which supported altogether from the shipping European in 2018, to 658 thousand direct places of work they add 780 thousand indirect places of work (980 thousand in 2015) and 540 thousand you mail induced (477 thousand).

Of 54 billion euros of direct contribution of the European industry of the shipping to the GDP of the EU in 2018, 30,9 billion were generated by the field of the transport of the goods enclosed the fields of the towing and the dredgings (32,0 billion in 2015), 14,6 billion from the fleeting field of the transport (10,0 billion), 5,6 billion from the field of the ships of services and to support of the offshore industry (10,0 billion) and 2,6 billion euros from the segment of the charterings (4,0 billion).
