L'attività di P&O Ports e P&O Nedlloyd procede a gonfie vele

Nel terzo trimestre di quest'anno la divisione portuale e quella di trasporto marittimo containerizzato del gruppo britannico P&O hanno nuovamente registrato un incremento dei volumi movimentati e trasportati. In flessione invece l'attività della divisione traghetti, che ha mostrato un trend negativo analogo a quello del primo semestre.
Nel periodo luglio-settembre del 2003 i container terminal che fanno capo alla filiale P&O Ports hanno movimentato complessivamente quasi tre milioni di teu, con un aumento del 23,7% rispetto al terzo trimestre dello scorso anno. L'incremento di carattere organico, che non tiene conto degli effetti delle nuove acquisizioni e partecipazioni, è stato del 13%.
Oggi P&O Ports ha annunciato che il nuovo container terminal sull'area est del Deurganckdok del porto di Anversa, in settembre interamente assegnata alla società terminalista (inforMARE del
25 settembre 2003), sarà realizzato in alcune fasi e inizierà l'attività nel 2005-2006. Una volta ultimato il nuovo terminal avrà una capacità di movimentazione annua pari ad oltre tre milioni di teu.
Nel terzo trimestre di quest'anno la divisione Ferries di P&O ha trasportato oltre 4,4 milioni di passeggeri, con un calo del 9% rispetto allo stesso periodo del 2002. Il traffico di autovetture e bus è ammontato a 865mila unità (-6,7%), mentre le unità di carico sono state 513mila (+3,6%). La crescita del traffico merci è stata però controbilanciata dal calo dei prezzi, inferiori a quelli praticati nel terzo trimestre dello scorso anno.
Nel terzo trimestre di quest'anno il settore del trasporto marittimo containerizzato, in cui il gruppo britannico opera attraverso la joint venture 50:50 P&O Nedlloyd con l'olandese Royal Nedlloyd, ha registrato un volume trasportato pari a 940.500 teu (+1,2%). P&O Nedlloyd ha archiviato il periodo con un utile operativo di 56 milioni di dollari, contro un passivo operativo di 46 milioni di dollari nel trimestre luglio-settembre del 2002. Il ricavo medio per teu totalizzato dalla compagnia è stato di 1.346 dollari, con un aumento del 18% rispetto al terzo trimestre dello scorso anno. Questa progressione - ha precisato P&O Nedlloyd - è stata realizzata con il contributo determinante del rialzo dei noli relativi ai traffici Europa-Asia e con l'introduzione di currency adjustment factors che hanno smorzato gli effetti dell'indebolimento del dollaro.
P&O Nedlloyd prevede che il trend positivo proseguirà anche nell'ultimo trimestre del 2003.
