    The commonwealth, Victorian and NSW governments will soon decide on who will conduct the process of formal arbitration required to resolve the last remaining major issue blocking an agreement on the sale of NR.
    Following Transport Minister Mark Vaile's announcement on Monday that a process of formal arbitration would be entered into -- over the fate of Melbourne's South Dynon terminal -- a ministerial spokesman said the three shareholder governments would now decide whether a single person or representatives from each of the three state governments would be appointed as arbiters.

    The Maritime Union of Australia yesterday said it was preparing for a new battle, claiming that a company employing defunct P&C Stevedores labor will bid for work in the West Australian port of Geraldton.
    Earlier this month, the Geraldton Port Authority announced it would outsource all stevedoring work, with preference to companies using individual contracts (Australian Workplace Agreements).
    The MUA alleges that a new company, identified as CDF Australian, was registered three weeks ago and comprises the core workforce of P&C Stevedores, including some of those who were to be trained in Dubai.

    Westrail yesterday defended its decision to consider all possible options for the privatisation of its rail business, including an option to include the Perth to Kalgoorlie section of the interstate track in the sale package.
