    La demande faite par la joint-venture P&O Ports/Logport pour une concession relative à un terminal à containers à marée à Anvers mérite réflexion à plus d'un titre et ce, pour plusieurs raisons. En premier lieu, c'est la première fois qu'un grand groupe étranger actif dans la manutention de containers se manifeste officiellement sur la place d'Anvers. Certes, à un moment donné ECT caressait cette idée mais cela n'a jamais dépassé le stade d'une intention officieuse. En second lieu, cette initiative pourrait avoir pour conséquence de donner une nouvelle orientation à la concurrence locale dans ce secteur.
  • Flexibilité des temps de travail et de livraison pour lutter contre la congestion des routes
    La Commission sectorielle Transport de marchandises du Conseil Economique et Social pour la Flandre (SERV) vient de publier sa recommandation au sujet de la flexibilité des temps de travail et de livraison dans le transport de marchandises comme réponse du secteur des transports à la congestion sans cesse croissante des routes, se traduisant pour le secteur par une diminution de la vitesse commerciale, une baisse de la rentabilité, une hausse des coûts, etc. Outre l'importance de la flexibilité pour le transport de marchandises, la Commission fait également quelques suggestions pour la favoriser dans la pratique.

    Dans la résolution de son congrès statutaire quadriennal, la section "Port d'Anvers" de l'Union belge des ouvriers du transport (UBOT) avertit les armements belges et étrangers que le travail portuaire en Belgique - "quoi qu'en disent leurs contrats avec des arrimeurs" - tombe toujours sous le coup de la Loi Major. L'adaptation de cette loi par l'arrêté royal du 9 mars 1999 - que le Conseil d'Etat pourrait annuler (voir cadre) - reste pour le syndicat socialiste "l'unique solution juridique adéquate afin de maintenir les services logistiques et complémentaires sous la compétence de la sous-comission paritaire". La section de l'UBOT se montre pour le reste très positive dans son appréciation de l'Entreprise portuaire autonome et très critique dans son jugement de l'attitude des ports vis-à-vis de la Commission portuaire flamande.
