Si l'actuel terminal FCT doit être uniquement réservé aux trafics containérisés en lo/lo, la solution de compromis consisterait à développer l'extrémité intérieure du site, dans le ponlongement de la ligne du quai, et d'utiliser un quai de retour pour des activités ro/ro. Cette solution ne fournirait que la moitié des emplacements et superficies dont Cobelfret à besoin, et cela ne pourrait être prêt qu'en l'an 2001, ce qui signifie que l'armement devrait attendre. Interrogé sur cette évolution, le président F. Traen nous a déclaré que ce point de vue était totalement erroné.
