Du côté belge, on accepte la demande néerlandaise d'une étude d'incidence sur l'environnement (MER) concernant le passage de trains sur le tracé historique, donc à travers la "zone de silence" du Meinweg. Mais cette étude sera menée plus promptement que ce qu'avançaient les Néerlandais: elle devrait être terminée pour 2001 au lieu de 2003.
