Le premier à s’annoncer fut Robert Boyle, executive director, qui a demandé de pouvoir partir dès qu’un remplaçant aura été désigné. Il a évoqué des raisons familiales pour justifier sa décision. C’est ensuite Lillian Borrone, assistant executive director qui a communiqué son départ, car soucieuse de passer plus de temps en famille... Or cette annonce survient quelques jours après son retour d’une tournée en Europe au cours de laquelle elle fit une intervention remarquée à la manifestation Intermodal qui s’est tenue à Gênes dernièrement.

    Le port de Bruxelles va devenir, plus encore que par le passé, une plate-forme de logistique axée sur la distribution urbaine et l’approvisionnement des commerces de la capitale. Dans ce contexte, il semble acquis que les poids lourds seront interdits dans le centre-ville. Un décision quant à la limite pondérale des camions de distribution qui y seront admis (3,5 ou 12 tonnes?), par contre, ne devrait pas être prise dans l’immédiat. Dans ce contexte, il a été décidé que le centre TIR à l’avenue du Port va être transformé en un Centre de Distribution Urbaine. Les bâtiments existants seront réservés aux PME logistiques, tandis que l’extension du centre, sur 9 ha acquis à la SNCB, seront réservés à deux ou trois entreprises de taille plus importante.

    Herman De Croo, président de la Chambre des représentants et ministre d’Etat, a été l’un des intervenants les plus remarqués au dîner de l’UEA. Non seulement parce que son intervention a été la plus animée, mais surtout en raison du contenu. Il a ainsi plaidé avec un certain libéralisme fondamental pour le développement de l’infrastructure ferroviaire avec des fonds privés et exhorté les expéditeurs anversois à intervenir efficacement dans le dossier du second accès ferroviaire au port d’Anvers et de la liaison ferroviaire du Liefkenshoek. Quelques sourcils se sont froncés dans l’assistance, rien de plus naturel, car n’était-ce pas le même De Croo qui demandait en 1995 d’”oublier le Rhin d’Acier” et qui refusait l’aménagement d’un pertuis ferroviaire dans le tunnel du Liefkenshoek...?
