    Le transfert du fret de la route vers le rail: tel a été le thème de la deuxième convention européenne sur le fret ferroviaire qui s’est tenue mercredi et jeudi à Bruxelles. L’occasion de dresser un tableau des espoirs, mais aussi et surtout des moyens pour faire en sorte que le rail joue un plus grand rôle, afin de réduire la pression du transport routier. La première journée a notamment permis d’étudier l’exemple de la Suisse en matière de transfert de la route vers le rail, de voir la situation du rail en Europe centrale et orientale, et d’entendre des responsables ferroviaires et des utilisateurs, plus ou moins heureux. En conclusion de la première journée, la Commissaire européenne aux Transports Loyola de Palacio a rappelé les objectifs de la Commission, résumés dans le Livre Blanc, et a annoncé des mesures prochaines concernant l’interopérabilité, la sécurité et même la tarification.
