Un moment historique dans l’ère de l’après tunnel sous la Manche car il s’agit du tout premier ferry construit pour la courte traversée entre le continent européen et le RU depuis le “Prins Filip” de feu la RMT. Le “SeaFrance Rodin” est le plus grand ferry sur cette courte route transmanche et a augmenté la capacité fret journalière de l’armement de 25%. Cette capacité supplémentaire est déjà pratiquement entièrement exploitée et l’armement envisage d’augmenter à nouveau sa capacité en agrandissant d’ici la fin de l’année le ferry fret “Nord-Pas-de-Calais”.
  • Les chargeurs doivent-ils externaliser ou intégrer transport et logistique?
    Transport et logistique sont devenus de nos jours les facteurs décisifs du succès des grandes entreprises, autrement dit, des chargeurs. L’un comme l’autre s’inscrivent étroitement dans des stratégies opérationnelles et commerciales et leur interprétation dans les faits varient selon les concepts élaborés, ceci en fonction des types d’entreprises, des types de produits et surtout des exigences de la clientèle. Ces deux facteurs sont devenus indissociables et l’on peut considérer que la logistique dans son ensemble est désormais reconnue comme critère de performance d’une entreprise. La question qui se pose pour de nombreux chargeurs est de savoir s’il faut externaliser ou intégrer leur transport et leur logistique. Cette question en entraîne d’autres: comment organiser les centres de décision en matière d’achat de transport et comment choisir les prestataires de services? D’une étude qui fut brièvement évoquée lors d’une des conférences de la SITL, il ressort qu’un grand reproche est fait aux prestataires de services logistiques: le défaut d’informations fiables et de qualité, ainsi que l’absence de solutions innovatrices.

    L’activité de transport routier a baissé assez nettement en décembre dernier, tant en national qu’en international. C’est ce qu’annonce l’Institut du Transport Routier, qui vient de publier son enquête de conjoncture pour le dernier mois de l’année. Cette baisse, toutefois, est notée par rapport au mois de novembre 2001. Hélàs, aucune comparaison n’est faite par rapport au mois de décembre 2000, pas plus que l’ITR ne dresse un tableau de la conjoncture pour l’ensemble de l’année (voir notre “billet d’humeur en fin d’article).
  • Début des travaux d’aménagement du terminal à containers de Wielsbeke
    Sauf imprévus et si le planning est respecté, le River Terminal Wielsbeke devrait être opérationnel début 2003. Les travaux sur le site en bordure de la Lys ont débuté vendredi dernier. Le chantier comprend l’asphaltage d’une superficie de 16.000 m2 et l’aménagement d’un quai de 255 mètres. Le chargement/déchargement de ces pontons s’effectuera via la méthode roro: les containers seront roulés à bord et arrimés. Une fois chargés, les pontons seront acheminés vers leur destination - un autre terminal intérieur à containers - par bacs de poussage. Katoen Natie procède actuellement à des tests et les appels d’offres pour les pontons de 90 mètres sur 11,4 mètres, seront émis dans les prochains jours. Les pontons en question auront une capacité de 112 TEU, les containers ne pouvant être gerbés que sur deux couches.
