- Fincantieri will build the third frigate for the US Navy
missile launcher of the "Constellation" class

- The value of the contract option is about 536
million dollars

 Fincantieri has announced that the US Navy has decided on the exercise
of the option that assigns to Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM), the
American subsidiary of the Italian navalmeccanico group, the
construction of the third missile frigate of the class
"Constellation", which will be called USS
Chesapeake (FFG-64). The value of the contractual option is
of about 536 million dollars. Fincantieri has specified that
this announcement follows the success of the project review of the
last month of the class leader USS Constellation (FFG-62), which
is approaching the beginning of the implementation phase.-
- The program "Constellation" was
awarded to FMM in 2020, with a contract for the first frigate with
the option for nine additional ships, in addition to after-sales support and
the training of the crews, with a total value of about 5.5
billions of dollars
(
of 4
May 2020). As part of the program, the U.S. Navy provides for the
construction of an additional ten units, for a total of 20.-
- Fincantieri has highlighted that in this prestigious tender
the company has managed to impose itself on ITS US competitors
thanks to a project judged as the most advanced and
innovative being the proposal of the Italian group based on the
FREMM frigate platform, considered the best in the world under
the technological profile, on which a program of ten units is based
for the Italian Navy.

- Meanwhile, Fincantieri has almost completed the modernization of the
own U.S. shipyards aimed at enabling the construction of
two frigates every year.
