The Panama Canal thrives on its unique geographical position, providing as it does a shortcut between the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans in the Centre of the Americas. Approximately 13,500 ships transit the Canal every year. In addition, a number of ships call at either end of the Canal without transiting.
