- The long social peace on the docks is likely to end
German
-
- Friday ver.di interrupted negotiations with ZDS
considering that the offer submitted falls far below the guarantee of
maintenance of the real wage
-
Negotiations for the renewal of the contract of the workers of the
German ports have come to a standstill after Friday,
on the occasion of the third round of negotiations in Hamburg, the
Zentralverband der deutschen Seehafenbetriebe (ZDS), the association
of the German ports, she had presented herself by making an offer that to her
notice would fully satisfy the demands of the union.
This was not the case: after ten hours of discussions, in
late in the evening the trade union organization ver.di decided to
interrupt the negotiations considering the proposal inadequate.-
- ZDS' offer provides for an increase in remuneration
hourly of 0.90 euros and an increase in annual salary of 600
euro for workers working in the container sector. In addition
allowances are provided to mitigate the effects
of the increase in the cost of living that - the association has specified
- are equal to 1,000 euros for workers in the
containers and 500 euros for those of the other sectors of activity.
According to the association, that offer corresponds to an increase in
annual salary of +7.8% and +6.0% respectively. For the boss
ZDS negotiator, Ulrike Riedel, with this proposal
the association of ports has fully accepted the requests of the
workers.
-
- For the union, on the other hand, the offer is inadequate in
how much - explained ver.di - translates into increases in the
annual salary of +4.95% for workers in the
containers and +3.75% for workers in other sectors, increases
which - specified the union - in some cases are also
Lower. "This offer - denounced the representative
of the trade union Maya Schwiegershausen-Güth - is far beyond
below the guarantee of maintenance of the real wage required by
ver.di in consideration of the current growth rate of +7.9%
of prices and is unacceptable for employees."
-
- This diametrically opposed assessment of the proposal
advanced by ZDS represents a further sign of a possible
cracking of social peace on the German docks in place by
decades and interrupted on Thursday by a workers' strike
ports implemented in the last shift of work in view of the
negotiations of the next day. To avoid further stoppages
of the activity, both ver.di and ZDS have announced the
possibility that a new round of negotiations could be
started already in the coming days.
