Next 31 May to the Old Fortress of Livorno the workshop will hold "the sediments of the ports is a realized resource" within Agriport, a project co-financed from the EU commission and the ministry of the Atmosphere and the Protection of the Territory and the Sea which part of the Echo program, European initiative finalized to support the distance from the search at the market of producing, processes and innovative technologies aiming to the protection of the atmosphere, the ecosostenibilità and the rational use of the natural resources.

The contaminated sediments constitute a serious problem for all the commercial ports. Every year, in fact, great sediment amounts are dredged that, being in great part weakly contaminated, cannot be replaced in sea. Agriport adopts a fito-technology that takes advantage of plants adapted to the salt atmosphere, together with the microorganisms of their rhizosphere, in order to remove or to transform the various present polluting agents in dredging sediments and meanwhile to desalinizzare the matrix and to transform it in "tecno-I sole" with characteristics own of a fertile land.

In the course of the encounter the results of the project will be introduced, that they consist in a reduction in two years of the contamination from heavy metals of 20% and hydrocarbons of 60%. Moreover the dealt sediment, thanks to the reduction of its salt content, anticipates characteristic confrontabili to those of a fertile land. The total costs of treatment in Italy are of about 35 euros to the cubic metre and the feasibility in economically competitive terms is confirmed in 20 lead cases study in the Mediterranean.

The project, than is concluded to the end of June, already is experienced in the sites pilot of the port of Livorno, of the Channel of the Navicelli of Pisa and the ports of Haifa and Ashdod in Israel. In two years the contamination from heavy metals and hydrocarbons respective of 20 and 60% is reduced and is desalinizzato the sediment of dredging to such point to return it in every aspect similar to usable agricultural amending for the environmental restoration.

The project is realized by a group coordinated from SGI Study Galliums Engineering Spa (SGI) and composed by Harbour Authority of Livorno (APL), University of Pisa - Department of Civil engineering (UNIPI), Centro Nazionale di Ricerca - Institute for the Study of Ecosystems (CNR), Volcani Centre (Institute of search of the Ministry of Israeli Agriculture), Of Appolonia and DFS Engineering.
