After having, together with other international shipowning associations, urged the States of the European Union to include two Indian yards in the list of marine recycling plants authorized by the EU
(

18 September 2026), today the association of European shipowners has appealed to Euro MPs, inviting them to support the proposal of inclusion formulated by the European Commission.
The exhortation comes a few days from the vote of the Commission for the Environment of the European Parliament on a motion which opposes the Commission's proposal. The vote is scheduled for 4 November and European Shipowners | ECSA invited Members to reject this motion.
"The inclusion of the two Indian yards in the EU list - it has emphasized the general secretary of the European association, Sotiris Raptis - is a long-awaited and very positive step, which rewards the investments made to conform to European standards. To oppose the inclusion of plants that respect the stringent EU safety and environment standards would undermine the credibility of the Union's own legislation".
