
The Spanish government has announced an investment program
€1.93 billion for projects to improve the
connectivity of Spanish ports. The plan has been
approved by the Ministry of Transport and Mobility
Sustainable through the Puertos del Estado entity and provides that the
port authorities contribute 875.1 to this budget
million euros. Overall, the programme comprises 60 projects:
43 rail and 17 road. Based on type, 21 projects
concern the last mile connections, 25 the general network and
14 terminals. As part of this plan, the following have been signed:
16 agreements with ADIF, the company that manages the network
national railway, to finance projects with a total value
of 1.1936 billion euros, with a contribution from the port system
equal to 457.6 million euros.
Recently completed fund projects include
the widening of the tracks at the Lezo station (Pasajes), the
ADIF terminal in Escombreras, the access road to the port of
Sagunto (Valencia), the rail access to the Cabezuela del
Port of Cádiz and the Marchamalo intermodal terminal
(Guadalajara). In the coming months and during 2027,
The completion of further works, such as the
access to the Ferrol outport, the right of way tracks on the line
Algeciras-Bobadilla and new rail links to the ports of
Seville and Castellón. The objective of this "Fund for
land access to ports', established in 2014, is
financing road and rail connection projects located in the
outside the port service areas, thus favoring
intermodal freight transport and strengthening competitiveness
of Spanish ports.
At the same time, the Distribution Committee of the Distribution Fund
interport clearing, which operates within the Puertos del
Estado, approved the initial proposal for the allocation of
resources within the state port system for 2027, for a
total of 47.5 million euros. These funds will be allocated to:
aids to navigation (€10 million); authorities
subject to specific conditions of isolation, insularity
o the status of an outermost region (€10.5 million);
security initiatives (1.6 million euros); the "Puertos
4.0" (€7.5 million); and other purposes (€17.9 million);
million euros). Port authorities will contribute to the
5% of that budget, except for those located in the archipelagos
of the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, in Ceuta, Melilla and Seville, which
will contribute 2.5%.
