Gioia Tauro
October 28, 2026
Today the Committee of management of the Authority of Harbour System of the Southern Tyrrhenian Seas and Ionio has approved the Budget of forecast 2027 and the three-year program of the public works 2027-2029 of the agency, with the first that presents revenues for approximately 24 million euros and a forecast of expense of approximately 88 million euros, as well as expenses in account capital pairs to 70 million euros, besides to further 70 million euros already inserted in the year in course for total 140 million. The management deficit, amounting to approximately 64 million euros, finds full coverage in the alleged administrative surplus, greater than 137 million euros.
Emphasisting that the financial framework allows the AdSP to support an important infrastructural programming and to continue in the path of modernization, potenziamento and requalification of the ports of its own constituency, the president of the agency, Paolo Piacenza, has explained that "the programming that we have defined outlines a concrete perspective of development for the entire harbour system of the Southern Tyrrhenian Seas and Ionio. Through organic planning and supported by important financial resources we are building a more modern, competitive, interconnected and sustainable system, able to accompany the growth of traffic and, at the same time, to generate new development opportunities for the territories. Our strategy - it has added - does not focus on individual interventions, but aims to strengthen an integrated system, in which Gioia Tauro represents the main logistic and intermodal motor, while Crotone, Corigliano Calabro, Vibo Valentia Marina and Taureana of Palmi perform complementary and strategic functions. The planned investments represent a precise choice: improving the quality of the infrastructure, strengthening the intermodality, supporting the energy transition and creating conditions increasingly favorable to attract new traffics and new economic activities".
Among the most important interventions of the Triennial Operational Plan approved today is the completion of the system of cold ironing in the port of Gioia Tauro, through the start of the implementation contract previewed from the Agreement Already contracted, for an additional investment of 30 million euros, inserted in the pot 2027-2029. The beginning of the work is planned in the course of 2027, in continuity with the works already in progress and with those previewed before the end of 2026. The planning of the different stages of construction has been defined with particular attention to the need to ensure full operation of the port, avoiding interference and congestion in the operating areas, even in view of the trend of the traffics.
Also in Gioia Tauro is previewed the start of the contest for the urbanization of the area ex Isotta Fraschini, destined to the realization of the new interporto of interscambio iron-ship-nave-gomma, for a total investment of 10 million euros. The intervention will allow to create the necessary infrastructures to strengthen the interchange of the goods coming from the port and directed towards the main national and European logistic corridors, favoring the integration between marine and railway transport.
In 2027 it is also previewed the start of the design of the intervention of environmental requalification of the internal areas of the port of joys and the arenile, for a total investment of five million euros. The intervention will affect the internal areas to the harbour constituency and will also include the area of the former greenhouses, south of the port, entering into a wider path of requalification and re-functionalization of the southern section of the harbour area. Since part of the areas concerned is not currently owned by the agency, it is previewed a path finalized to their acquisition, also through possible expropriation, in order to allow an organic requalification and a total refunctionalization, in coherence with the harbour planning tools.
For the ports of Crotone, Corigliano Calabro and Vibo Valentia are previewed new interventions for the energy efficiency with an overall investment of 2,5 million euros. The works previews interventions of efficiency of the harbour infrastructures and the realization of plants for the production of electricity from renewable sources, with the objective to reduce the consumption, favor the energy self-production and create the conditions for the development of the Renewable Energy Communities (CER).
