
The Authority of Harbour System of the Southern Tyrrhenian Seas and Ionio has published the call of contest for the entrustment of the works of restructuring in the port of Gioia Tauro regarding the docks ro-ro in the E tract and the realization of the new docking to the wear of the second approdo ro-ro. The work will allow to upgrade the operating capacity of the hornbeam port, to adapt the agreed to the standards required by modern ro-ro and ro-pax ships and to exceed the current dimensional limits of the existing dock slides, today 25 meters long and no longer fully complying with the characteristics of the ships of new generation. The project provides for the extension of the three slides up to 35 meters long, with the aim to optimize the operations of boarding and disembarkation of the vehicles and improve the efficiency of the loading and unloading activities.
In addition to the requalification of the existing agreements the intervention previews also the realization of a new tooth of dock constituted from a dock a day founded on poles and equipped with a slide of 35 meters, increasing the number of couplings able to accommodate ships with poppiera hull. The president of the AdSP, Paolo Piacenza, has specified that the realization of the new infrastructures will also contribute to strengthen the functional separation between the container sector and the automotive one, creating the conditions for an increasingly efficient management of the harbour spaces and for the further increment of the enlivened volumes.
The deadline for submitting tenders set at 12:00 on 7 August. Of the value of 5.6 million euros, the works will have a duration of 210 days.
