Fincantieri has signed with PT PAL Indonesia, the main company
Indonesian state-owned shipbuilding, a memorandum of understanding aimed at
define a framework for cooperation for the future
modernisation of Indonesian Navy ship
Kri Sriwijaya
(formerly
Giuseppe Garibaldi). Originally entered service
as an aircraft carrier
cruiser Giuseppe Garibaldi, the ship
was built by Fincantieri at the shipyard of
Monfalcone and delivered to the Italian Navy in 1985.
The two companies will collaborate for the modernization of the ship,
by combining their respective competences and jointly defining the scope
of the activities and responsibilities within the
program. As original designer and builder
of the unit, Fincantieri will make available its
deep knowledge of the platform, while PT PAL will provide
its consolidated experience in shipbuilding,
in system integration and support activities, and
maintenance.
This agreement represents a further step in the consolidation
of the relationship between Fincantieri and Indonesia. In recent years,
The key milestones in this collaboration were the delivery of
of PPA ships - Multipurpose Combat Ship Kri Brawijaya-320 and
Kri Prabu Siliwangi-321, belonging to a class designed
and built by Fincantieri for the Italian Navy.
